I understand that friday the 13th is a "black friday", and I also understand the day after friday can also be considered "Black firday" and a few other days. I just want to trace back the unlucky "13". Someone once told me it was because of a racist reaction to the thirtenth amendment. Supposidly there were many racist acts on friday the 13th in rebelion. I'm looking to possibly trace back the unlucky 13th before the the slave era. I'm not looking for myths or ledgens, but facts in history. Thank you!FYI ... there are about 11 full moons each year, with one blue moon happening about every 2 1/2 years... although there may be 13 full moons in one year it does not happen every year, therefore the statement about the 13 full moons each year is false.

There are lots of reasons throughout history, but the oldest I know of is that there were 13 at the last supper (12 deciples + Jesus)

no one knows for sure, but we do know that the number 13 has been considered unlucky for thousands of years. the ancient Babylonians are the earliest known people to believe that the number 13 were unlucky. the ancients were so convinced of this that when they came up with the astrological signs, they actually ignored a constellations so that their wouldn't be 13. some people believe that 13 was unlucky because 12 was lucky and one more was bad. another theory is that if you count up your 10 fingers and two feet you get 12 and one more would be the unlucky 13.as for why Friday the thirteenth is unlucky, all Fridays used to be considered unlucky, the 13th was just more so. however when we went to a five day work week, Friday became the start of the weekend and became a good thing. that is with the exception of Friday the 13th.

The reason is because there were supposed to be thirteen people at the last supper. The supper after which Christ was betrayed and crucified. Thus it is accociated with the doing of a great evil in the eyes of our society. But there is a deeper reason which stretches back great antiquety. That instead of being twelve signs of the zodiac, there was a thirteenth-the sign of Alphiortes-the serpent. For some reason this was discarded, possibly because twelve is a much better dividing and orginisating number, and thus it developed the myth of the evil serpent and of the unlucky number-13.So because it was considered, Christ's execution day, unlucky and associated with the number of people at the last supper-Judas supposingly being the 13th. And also because of that 13th sign of the zodiac which was abondoned and thus became by myth-unlucky. And there are some very old myths about the long time ago struggle between good and evil with evil being associated with the serpent. And it is interesting to note that it was a serpent that tempted Eve in the garden. So it has nothing whatsoever to do with the 13th ammendment. Rather the thirteenth ammendment would be considered by some unlucky, not because of any racial reason, but because of the previously considered unlucky number- 13. Hope this helps.
