Depends on which country you are coming from. I'm pretty sure each country is different from Australia. Our power plugs look like this: http://content.answers.com/main/cont...wer_point.jpg/ \ |

Mate, If your from North America your appliances probably just wont work at all. Aussie uses 220 on 50 hertz cycle. Check out the little power sticker on the side of the motor and it will indicate either 120-60 or 220-50. If your lucky and the motor was designed for international use it would say both. You then would only need an adapter available any shop in Aus to plug the prongs into the wall. If its not motorized and is just a power inverter (say for a laptop) you need to buy a new inverter.

You will need at least a plug converter. The wall receptacles in most countries do not use the same plugs as in the US. If you buy a power converter (Franzus, etc about $20), it will come with a set of plug converters as well as the power converter. Now, you need to look at the appliances you are taking to see if you need the power converter. Most laptop computer power supplies, my Dell for instance, will operate with input (wall) voltages from 100 to 240 volts. This covers about all the countries in the world. Don't worry about the 50/60 Hertz (cps) that rarely makes a difference unless you are using a washing machine. If all of your appliances will run on 100-240 volts then all you need are the converter plugs and those are much cheaper than the power converter gadget. If you do need the power part, check the power (watts) requirement of your appliance and make certain that the converter you get has at least that rating.
