Trip to puerto rico?

I am going to puerto rico in august. i am staying at the el conquistador. i really want to get a feel for puerto rico and the culture i was thinking about going to old san juan? can someone give me advice on if this is a good idea and what are some of the things i can do to get a feel for the culture. thanks

I was just in PR in February and even though we did not get to San Juan we had a blast. Make sure you take the Bio-Bay Luminescent tour, it is right near the Conquistador and it is great. Eat in local places off the resort property, the food is awesome and pretty inexpensive. Check out El Yunque rainforest, a great place with great views and waterfalls.
