A ship is loaded with a cargo of a “corn meal, soybean flour and milk powder mixture” in multi-wall paper bags A ship is loaded with a cargo of a “corn meal, soybean flour and milk powder mixture” in multi-wall paper bags with sealed plastic liners. Each bag holds 80 pounds of the product and is handled and stacked in the ship by hand. The shipment of 500 tons is delivered to Bombay, India as a part of the Food for Peace program of the US government. When the ship arrives in Bombay and is opened for unloading, it is noted that many of the bags have spots or patches of mold growing on the outside. The product on the inside of the bags seems to be free of mold and completely wholesome.a.Why would mold grow on the outside of the bags and not on the inside?b.Besides the paper bag, what was the food source for the mold?c.What can be done to prevent mold from developing on future shipments?any suggestions..?
