Well, you might be sure to allow everyone some private time "space" or whatever.Also, something to do rather than just look at each other helps. Will you be hiking, boating, swimming, etc.? Why not take along some games like Rook, Uno, Chutes & Ladders -- whatever is appropriate for the ages that will be involved. Getting everyone involved in meal preparation helps -- not only does the mother get some free time, it's fun to work together.A scavenger hunt in the woods is lots of fun -- make a list of things to find -- certain kind of leaf, nuts, twigs, rocks, moss. This is even better if each team has a digital camera and can take pictures of the items and not have to disturb the environment. Then you can include bugs and animals on the list.And, last but not least, PATIENCE. When someone is whining and complaining try to hear what the real problem is. It could be invasion of privacy, lack of space, or boredom.
