CD players inside airplanes?

I'd never heard of a CD player being put inside an aircraft, until I saw one inside a Lancair IV-P inside an AOPA magazine (April 2005 I believe)
Would this be a good tool to use on those long flights? Would it even be safe? What if the control tower or another pilot tried to contact you while you were listening to a CD? (I'm assuming you listen to it with the headsets).

I am pretty sure they must cut off if a signal was detected on the radio.

when your taking off you shouldn't be listening to your headset until they say you can use any electronics that includes CD players. next time when you go on a plane make a check with the flight attendant about CD players on board. the reason why they want all equipment off is because it screws up their radio frequence mostly most things like CD players or radios have a tendesy to use the radio frequence as its host..
