What makes some people more prone to experiencing the paranormal?

Serious answers only please. I've read that because kids have a higher energy level, paranormal activity feeds off of that.

I believe that the harder your life has been the more likely that you will have a sixth sense....and also be open to attracting paranormal activity...because your senses are heightened through years of needing to be mentally and physically alert to the presence of danger...You learn this..its a defence mechanism.... I had a shitty 10 years in my childhood and i can sense things a lot of others cant...i just know things before they happen and i believe that I have also experienced the paranormal too but nothing big time....just a chair moving and my bed vibrating...and hearing voices.

It can be called a 6th. sense but I was told that I inherited mine at birth. My grandmother had what she said was a gift from the day she was born and could see it in me, she said to not be afraid, "I remember thinking she was crazy" but then with time I understood. I don't always like it so I tune it out. But my youngest child has it. Don't ever call upon any of it, if it isn't natural its evil.
