There are many interpritaions of the scriptures two I know about and will discuss.1. I am baptist we believe that christ makes you realize your sin and that you need him to forgive those sins. You then repent which means to avoid making the same mistakes over. Christ forgives you and stands on your behalf be fore the father. Lots of Theology stuff happens during this process but to keep it short you are born agin spiritually and we believe that at that moment you have the holy spirit living in you that guides your life.2 Assembly of God theology is that you are born again and are a christian going to heaven but as you mature in christ you are baptised in the spirit which is when the holy spirit endwells your heart. Which is right I don't know but I do know that to go to heaven you have to be led by the spirit of GOD to a time of confession, forgiveness, and repentance. You can't just decide to go to heaven Christ has to invite you. The book of ROMANS in the BIBLE talks more about this.

The holy ghost is given to you to be your constant guide and spiritual companion but it is only with you as long as you live your life righteously.The holy ghost is the spirit of God, it cannot dwell in unclean or unholy places (this includes your body), just as someone who is unclean spiritually they are rejected and cannot enter into the kingdom of heaven. It is a law that we have to abide by, if we must abide by that law that God made, God is also bound to reject his spirit from people when they are not pure in the way they live their lives through their thoughts, their deeds, and actions.Being baptized is essentially the first step towards the road to heaven. How you live your life can either lead you onward on that path to heaven, or it can deviate you from that course.The holy ghost is a kind of compass, it helps you to recognize when you are deviating from that path. When it is too late, if you once recognized the holy ghost in your life, you will feel the lack of his presence spiritually.There are many factors that influence what qualifies you for heaven and what does not.[You'll get different answers, I'm sure from many perspectives who can cover diverse points for you to consider.]In the Mormon religion, you receive the Holy Ghost after you are baptized and confirmed a member of the church, it is given by a man who holds the proper priesthood authority to pass on the gift of the Holy Ghost to you.
