If you call 999 and then say nothing, a police car will be sent round, they can get your address from your phone number, it probably takes a long time, but someone will come eventually!

They use TDDY. The TDDY system is set up where the person who is deaf picks up the phone they are immediately connected to an operator with the TDDY system. The deaf person types in who they want to call and why. It works very quickly and most newer TDDY systems have an emergency button that goes directly to the 911 call center and it alerts the 911 operator that a deaf person is in need of assistance and police and fire are usually dispatched immediately. All 911 call centers are equipped with TDDY. Normal calls are relay calls where the operator at TDDY reads what is typed by the deaf person and then you speak in the first person back to the operator and the operator will then key in your response which will display on the deaf persons phone.
