Why doesn't it rain very much where I live?

I live in northwestern Virginia and much of this area sees "hit and miss" thunderstorms that pop up during the warmer months of the year. However, the area in which I live never gets much rain--the thunderstorms always take the same exact course. They come from the west but they always veer to the south or to the north. Why don't they ever come directly through the area in which I live? I must mention that I live to the east of the Blue Ridge Mountains which may be responsible for this but other locations on the eastern slopes of the mountains to the south and north don't seem to have this problem.

I live in Shelton Washington, and we get rain all the time. Its been rain now for four day. And its going to rain for four more day. I think thats why it is so green and pretty here

The mountains are the culprit. They obstruct the flow of air which would otherwise propel storms toward you. This effect is called a microclimate. My area has the opposite effect; air currents from both south and north of the Olympic mountains meet in my area, causing increased precipitation; the effect is called a convergence zone.
