1) you need to cut 2"X4"X8" long studs to the proper length
to make a finished wall of 8' in height. underneath the studs
there will be plate thats 1 1/2 thick. above the studs there will be double plate made up of two pieces of lumber 1 1/2 thick.
to what length should you cut the studs
a)8'
b)7'10"
c)7'9"
d)7' 71/2"

Well you want it 8' high
And it's 8' high already
But there's three things 1 1/2" high in the way.

You do the math.

Believe it or not, that's what homework is for. For you to do the work. Not to write the right answer and get top marks when someone five time zones away did the work and you can carry on playing Xbox.

8'=96" Now subtract the thickness of what is under and above the stud
96-1.5-1.5-1.5=96-4.5=91.5"
=7x12+7.5 = 7' 71/2" d)
