Eigenvectors? If you find the eigenvalue (i will say z for simplicity) and you augment zI-A with the 0 vector (I is the identity matrix) and you get x1=r,x2=0,x3=0 then do you say that the eigenvector associated with z is (1,0,0) or do you say that the eigenvectors associated with z are all vectors of the form (r,0,0)?
also, is the characteristic polynomial just the determinant of zI-A or do you have to actually take the determinant of that and get it to look like a polynomial before you can say that is the characteristic polynomial
