| mild soap is actually good for the leaves and stuff, and kills the bugs that live on your plants. Dr. Bonner's Castille soap cut with water in a spray bottle gets rid of aphids and spidermites... so soap is fine, unless you're using dish soap or something real perfumey, that would hurt it just because it would change the pH levels of the soil, and the additional ingredients would hurt. But glycerine soap or some other mild soap is fine, if you're using it for bugs.

| Detergent works as surfactant.Surfactants reduce the surface tension of water by adsorbing at the liquid-gas interfaceThe main barrier to water movement into the seed is a waxy layer, called the cuticle, that covers the entire plant surface. Its purpose is to prevent water loss. fertilizers formulated or applied with right amount surfactants reduce the surface tension of water and allow for more effective movement of the water and nutrients through the cuticle.
