| Sure, a scab canbe a breeding ground forbacteria as you put it, but mostof those will be bacteria that is already on your body. If you're looking for an answer in terms of infection, then that is the occurance of something getting past the clot and scab and the resulting "battle" is what causes the pus and redness/swelling and other nasty feelings/effects. As to why this happens is because bacteria are constantly on your body as well as practically everwhere in the environment. The scab for all intents and purposes just acts like skin, which is a suitable body temperature and contains some nutrients for certain bacteria.
