| While some animals are more susceptible to UV damage, possibly making them less fit, there are organisms where albino is advantageous and even dominant in populations. Examples include many cave organisms (moths, amphibians, fish) where most individuals are albino, because pigments are more energetically expensive to make and maintain and these pigments are often lost through evolutuion. Albino phenotypes can also be advantageous in an environment when a white color or lack of color aids in crypsis; this can be beneficial for predator species and prey species.
