it feels like i have real authority when i punish them, so i do it as much as possible.

dude, thats just wrong, you shouldnt punish kids just so you can feel good. way back, on of my teachers was like that and everybody hated, him, and he knew, that, your only going to get more trouble from your kids by doing that, the more you punish, the more they act up. if it is a joke, your just sick.
