Toddler moaning and groaning in night?

My toddler (almost two years old) has recently become extremely restless at night. He is fine during the day, no signs of being ill, eating well etc. For the past four nights he has started moaning quite loudly in his sleep. (Loud enough to wake us up!) He's agitated and wriggles around. If I leave him when he starts moaning, he will after about five minutes wake up crying. Once I've settled him, he'll sleep soundly for about ten minutes and then he'l start moaning again! He used to do this when he was a young baby. Any ideas what could be the problem? It's driving me mad!! Also concerned that neighbours think it's me moaning- must think me and hubby are at it 24/7!!!

He may be having night terrors or just could be bad dreams. Make sure to bring it up with his doctor next visit, or call her if it seems to get worse.

toddlers tend to start getting lot of nightmares that can occur constantly... try making sure that he is watching only light hearted cartoons through the day and nothing which can lead to distress, ive been told that this can play on a toddlers mind... even brum on cbeebies can seem distressing to a young child, my toddler became very anxious when a cat was trapped at the top of a building in one episode and had a dream about it that night,either that or your baby could be getting his last teeth and the pain of them coming through could be causing him some distressand let your neighbours think your at it ll the time... it'll only make them jealous ;o)

His teeth might be hurting coming through, are his cheeks rosy like apples? That's usually a sign of teething.And I found leaving a light on, but pulling the bedroom door closed slightly to keep the light low helped with my kids as babies.If this keeps on, ask your doctor.

Something is irritating him & overriding his need to sleep. Have a word with your health visitor or G.P.
