| hiring and won't answer phone As boring as it might sound to most people, I would really like to get a job at our local Value World store. For those who don't know, its basically a Salvation Army. I've been going to this store since I was probably 5 years old and it is the one place where I would really like to work, for the following reasons: If I'm asked where something is, I'll actually KNOW, unlike working at k-mart or wal-mart all that I would possibly do all day is hang up clothes, tag clothes, push hanger racks, clean, and move clothes and furniture; I know what I am getting myself into. It is close enough to my house that I could ride my bike there; I do not have to give anyone gas money until it starts to snow outside (sorry, but I wont go into "work" with salt covered, soaking wet clothes) etc (*contd) As far as I know, the store is not hiring, but I have NEVER seen a now-hiring sign there and I see a lot of new employees there each time I go to their store. Begining on my 14th birthday, I have tried and tried to contact them to find out if they are hiring and if so, what their minimum age requirement is. No one has ever answered. in 1.5 months, I'll be 16, and I'm sure that there is no further age requirement at the store. However, because of a home situation, I have not gone to school in 3 months and therefore, I'm sure that this will lessen my chances at the job (what can I say, I was a 3.8, AP student ranked 34/426...this was NOT my choice). However, although I know that they would never work me full time, it may be beneficial that I am available for all store hours and shifts. So I'm wondering; I would like to be able to find out if the store is hiring before I ask for an application, especially considering that there may be an age requirement. should I write the store manager and ask him/her in a formal letter, or wait until I am 16 and just ask for an app and see what they say?

| The best thing to do is go to the store and ask to speak to the manager. If he has no openings, tell him you would like to fill out an application and leave it for him. You never know, you might get a job out of it.

| Writing to the manager is a good idea, but if they have an age restriction then you will have to wait until then to be hired.
