 sleepy feeder - breastfeed? Hey all, i am currently breastfeeding my 11day old son, (he was 7 weeks premmie) and i had been bottle feeding him expressed breast milk but now on full breast he doesn't seam to go longer than 10-15mins without falling asleep, i'm worried he's not getting enought milk? anyone got any advice?please help!

| If he's falling asleep at the breast, chances are, he's gotten plenty.If he's not fussy when he wakes up and doesn't seem to need extra feedings during the day, I'd say he's fine. Its always hard to know just how much they're getting when you breastfeed, because you can't see it.A baby doesn't have to nurse long periods of time to get all the milk he/she needs. 10-15 minutes at each breast, or even total, may be all he needs.

| If he is gaining weight and looking healthy then dont worry-youre baby will let you know if he/she is unhappy hungry etc

| so long as your getting enough wet and poopy diapers he's fine. my preemie can now only feed more than 20 minutes of nursing as i have a FAST let down, sometimes he's full in 5 minutes.I've not got him to nurse on the second breast in one feeding yet as he fills on one breast alone. (though I can pump out 3-4 oz before I stop the drip in each breast - at 5 lbs he's certainly not taking that much in one go!)You wouldn't have gotten him home from the hospital if his feeding was not stable and sufficient.If he were still hungry he'd either take more or feed more often. No worries Mom!
