| I just found out my 13 yr old daughter ripped up and flushed about 150 pictures of the boy who broke her heart down our toilet. I am flummoxed by how to discipline her about this, does anyone have an opinion on an appropiate way to disclipline her for doing this? Also I am fairly worried because we have a septic tank, and I am not sure how and/or if our septic tank will handle 150 ripped up pictures-does anybody know?

| I've always had septic tanks; and to the best of my knowledge/experience, if the photo paper didn't clog up the plumbing before it got into the septic tank, chances are it will sit there in the tank until the next time you get it pumped out. They have to pumped out every couple of years anyway. Somehow I'm not picturing that photo paper would disintegrate, unless, of course, the pictures were printed on basic printer paper.A kid that age probably didn't realize there could be issues with the septic tank. Other than explaining to her that the potential for big plumbing problems is there when people flush stuff other than tissue down the toilet I'm not sure punishing her would be in order. If it turns out, by any chance, that you end up with a plumbing bill maybe you could take it out of her allowance or don't give her movie money (or whatever money you may give her) to "make up" for the plumbing bill.If your toilet doesn't start to seem plugged up in the next little while you'll probably be ok.I'm not a plumber, but I think most people with kids and septic tanks have had one thing or another flushed that shouldn't have been.

| Call a plumber, tell them what happened and ask what to watch out for in terms of flushing the toilet, draining the tub etc. Should it require digging up the pipeline to the tank, grab a shovel for yourself and your daughter. This would be an excellent lesson for her in terms of 'fixing things that are broken'. This would be a good time to talk to your daughter and have her break a sweat and get out some frustrations. Good luck to you both.
