it is the government's legal responsibility to have school available to all children in the united states.it is the parent's responsibility to make sure the student attends school, to be aware of the child's progress (or failing), and to encourage the student to learn.

Yea, by law you have to go to school until a certain age, and it's the legal guardian's responsibility to send the kid there. The legal guardian could be the biological parent, or whoever, but it's their responsibility, unless there are special circumstances, like the kid doesn't want to go, or something, but then the courts intervene. Basically parents can't keep their kids at home, they gotta go to school.

It is the parents' responsibility to have the children acquire education. The government's responsibility is to provide an educational system, educational facilities and educational programs that will be widely accessible to the public at all levels of income, and more especially to the poor and disadvantaged sectors of society.

It's the parents responsibility to see to the knowledge of their children. It is the government's PRIVILEDGE to ensure that EVERY child in a free and democratic society have access to education, thereby having a more educated workforce, who makes more money, who brings in greater tax revenues. If it is solely the parents responsibility, then only the wealthy or lucky children will attain an education. Which means that more people end up on welfare and other government programs. The government, therefore, DOES have a vested economic interest in making sure that children are educated and able to work when they reach adulthood. Peace,Jenn

I think it should be the parents' responsibility. I think personal responsibility is becoming a thing of the past and it is having a very negative impact on the U.S.A.Until the Regan administration, individual region had control over their educational systems. Now we have the federal government ensuring that we teach to the test and everyone strives to be mediocre. There is no accountability, it a student fails it is somehow the teacher's fault. If parents decide that they are going to step out of the process and make someone else responsible for the entire education of their child we will have no child left behind - and no child really their reaching potential. I teach at a college and while national levels of illiteracy are dropping, individual reading and writing abilities are substantially lower. We use all of our resources to ensure that the least advantaged have the most opportunity. However this homogenized national education program is creating a generation of young adult who cannot complete in the global economy because they have only been educated to the lowest common denominator. The federal government should not run education. It should be run by local families, communities and the government they choose to empower. I think everyone should have equal access to education but then it is up to the individual and their family to obtain that education. My kids will go to public school, but the curriculum presented there is not all they will learn.
