| I'm thinking about moving my 18 month old from his cot into a bed?Is this about the right age to do that? We've got another baby on the way so I need to move him and it seems like - although perhaps a tad early - it might make sense to just buy him a small bed.Anyone have any tips for what you can do to make the transition easier and safer for him? Thanks

| theres no specific age, it all depends on how quickly your child develops, if you think you child is ready then try it!

| it depends on your child if you think hes ready then he may be ready if you want to put him in a bed get him a todler bed and put it to the wall so he wont fall off when hes sleeping (if he moves around in his sleep) and leave the crib for the new babygood luck

| I would wait until he starts climbing out or trying to climb out. But if your timing requires it, it should no bid deal.As for the change, play it up like he is a big kid to go into the bid kid bed.

| i'm sure it'd be a good idea to move him to a small bed. i have a 20 month old and had recently moved him to his new toddler bed. toddler beds have side bars so he can move around and not fall off.. plus they sit pretty low, a few inches off the floor so its easy for them to climb in and out of their super big boy beds, heh... but really, if your son walks and climbs, he'll be alright..

| I think you are on the right lines, we did try our twins at 18 months but they were just not ready and went back into cots until a couple of days after there 2nd birthday, with my third child I put her in a bed at 21 months, my fourth child is now 14 months and I'm thinking anytime from 18 months onwards. We also chose some special bedding of something they like such as fimbles or whatever your little one likes, we didnt use a bed rail but instead put the cot mattress at the side of the bed for a couple of weeks until they were used to it. It actually wasnt too hard of a transition in the end so hope it goes well for you

| You can get toddler beds which are smaller than normal sized single beds and they are lower to the ground too, you can also get these soft padded rails which fix onto the side of the bed to help stop them from falling out, these are a great idea and help with the transition. Perseverance is the key!Good luck

| If you have the space and the cot is not convertable buy a toddler bed and without any fuss put it in the bedroom. We tried (and it worked) reverse psychology with our twins.Once the bed was in place we waited for them to ask what is was and told them it was a bed for good girls and they could not sleep in it unless they were very good. That night we put them in thier cot (with the sides off and pillows/spare duvet on the floor)Next morning you guessed it they were fast asleep in the Good bed. We only had one fall out and the transition was very quick.

| My son was climbing out of his cot from a VERY early age. We did everything possible to try to keep him in his cot but unfortunately we were concerned he would have a fall in the middle of the night (although he never did, he is a little monkey lol) so we made a big deal out of buying his new “big boy” bed. He came to the shop when we picked it out and he tried them all out by jumping and sleeping on them all of cause lol. We didn’t buy a toddler bed because I didn’t think he would get enough use out of it, so we went for a low to the ground normal single bed and bought a side safety rail. We made a huge deal out of the bed that “he picked out” and he picked out a new buzz lightyear pillow and blanket. Then when we got home he of cause helped daddy put the bed together (he thought this was the best game ever, he built his own bed) He absolutely loved his new bed, we were very lucky. And he enjoyed it more then his cot. He never bothered trying to climb out of it, as it was open so there was no point lol and we all got a lot more sleep
