The question is simple. I have been playing the piano for over 7 years or so. I am 14 now. Over the last month I told her I want to quit playing the piano. She has a odd insistancy to keep me in piano.First of all- Its totally not my life style. I weight lift 6 days a week, I would play sports any day over piano, I am go out with friends, and bike. I will soon be entering high school. And no, I don't want to quit because I am bored of it- I am totally sick of it; I hate sitting down on a bench to play music for any amount of time, no matter what type of music it is.I will perhaps let show this to my mom, once the answers are in to show her what other parents think.My mothers boyfriend said its fine for me to quit, my older brother played for years, and at around the same time he quit, never got back into it either.She tells me always, I am talented at piano... I don't care if I am, I will have anything to have to do in my life that involves piano or music.

Why would you want to quit piano? If you can play the piano, you can play any instrument! It is the most advanced instrument you can learn. Personally, I would love to play the piano properly. =)

Sounds like she wants to make money off of you. I'm surprised she hasn't had you playing with scalpels.Just destroy the piano with a sledgehammer and kindly tell her that even if she buys another one it will only receive the same fate.

bunk a couple of classes and your teacher will himself/herself kick you out. But please resort ot this as a last resort. When your mom sees this. I want to ask her a question.Aunty, if you were to do something, you really hate and some one above you is compelling you to do it, what would you do about it?And to say, when some one tells you to do something you hate, you tend to hate it more. No matter how much you force your son, he will not learn it properly. Just because I am a talented singer, I dont go to classes. My mom dosent force me but I too had troubles telling her I wanted to quit. Dont do it to your son too

lol i had the same problem my mom was totally in love with the idea that her children played the piano.Umm my advice would be to tell her that since your going to high school next year you'll need more time for school work and wont always have time to practice. Thats what I told my mom and she totally ate it all up and let me quit.GOOD LUCK!!
