I just ordered the Attachment Parenting book from Dr. Sears website. From the description, it seems like a practical and nurturing way to parent a baby.

My husband and I just don't believe in letting a baby "cry it out." (We have a 4 1/2 month old son - our first.)

Has anyone read this book? Or practiced attachment parenting? What was your impression? Or would you be willing to share some personal experience/insight?

If you feel comfortable with this method then it is fine. But please don't always turn to books and other media for your parenting skills. Turn to common sense, personal experience/knowledge first. Also, take a little from your parents and your husband's parents style and make it yours. Often the baby will direct you to know what they need. Jut pay attention. Don't get me wrong - reading and being knowledgeable on different ideas when it comes to parenting is great...but trust yourself and your baby first. They are babies not science experiments. People are trusting way too many external judgements over their own now and that is a little scary as data is constantly changing.

And PS. A little crying it out never hurt a baby. However, when they are young it is good to comfort them to let them know you are and will be there to meet their needs while they are helpless. You are still fairly new parents so you will look back in a year or two and shake your heads at how naive you were in some respects.

I like Dr. Sears' book pretty well. We definately practice attachment parenting.

My dd is 11 and my son is 2.5. I have two well-adjusted, independant, trusting kids that are fairly cooperative and extremely loving.
