| Yes, you can take iron .. my level was low right around 34 weeks so the doctor said if I was showing anemic at the next appt. he was going to put me on iron pills .. they are totally safe! but be sure to ask your doctor how much you can take!I ended up eating a bowl of TOTAL cereal everyday before my next weeks appt. and at the next appt. my iron level was perfect and I haven't had any problems since

| When your doctor told you that you were anemic, he or she should have suggested an iron pill. There are many different kinds, and you really should take what your doctor prescribes (whether it be Rx or OTC). What you take will depend on how low your levels are. There are also different TYPES of iron supplements, and some are not as effective as others. Please be careful! I am anemic, and during my previous pregnancies my levels were stable. They are severely low this time, and I have to get iron infusions (iron administered via IV, a four hour process twice a week) to ensure the health of my baby girl. When your iron is low, your blood cells are not carrying enough oxygen to your body. It has numerous side effects, and can effect the baby.

| I am also anemic and I went WalMart and asked the pharmacist and he said to take the Slow Fe because it is easier on your stomach. It is more expensiver but is well worth it. Also, if you are also taking a prenatal vitamin.. Take the iron pill an hour afterwards.
