| Atavacron has the list pretty well wrapped up but add that many states also give life sentences to repeat offenders of the same crimes. The "three strikes" penalty will get you a life sentence on the theory that you are a habitual criminal and therefore not a candidate for rehabilitation. Personally, I would rather put them down rather than support them for life after that third conviction.
