| Hi, I'm 16 now, and I was thinking on studing philosophy once I finish high school. I'm trying to decide wether this is the right move for me. I LOVE philosophy in high school, plus I have a very good teacher. Yet I don't really know how the subject is. I've read the information they've got at http://www.philosophy.ox.ac.uk/Cours...riptions.shtml , but still, I feel I know NOTHING of how it is going to be. I don't know if it is easy to get a job afterwards either.Could someone that has studied ir is stuiding philosophy help me. I'd really appriciate it.

| To study philosophy takes dedication. Please be prepared to go all the way to obtaining a Phd. Short of that, there are few people who will listen to your opinions. This first thing I would do if i were you (I have taught Intro to Philosophy at the college level and this is the thing I do on first day of class) is to sit down and write a paper on what your philosophy is on the major topics: existence of God;ethics; meaning of life; metaphysics; then adopt a method of studying the history of each in the realm of philosophical studies. You may change your mind and that is ok but you will be better able to intelligently discuss your opinions. Please be ready to do extensive reading and then some more reading from now on.If I can be of more assistance, please feel free to email me with your request. (am working on my PHD) as i write.I wish you the bestBob

| I went to UNi ages ago wanting to do Philosophy. I thought I liked it. I couldn't understand a thing! I HATED David Hume. About 4 weeks before the 1st year exams I found a little paperback that explained so much, I scraped through and then changed to Physics and Chemistry. Philosophy doesn't give you answers, sometimes it is more like the history of ideas and how they keep reappearing. All I can say is take care and Good luck: oh and do look for some great little paperbacks!
