| Or do you hear more about the prime minister? See, I am from teh United States and we always hear about the President. (or the upcoming election) Which one do you hear more about because I know the Queen isn't fully involved in your government. I bet you have heard a lot aboutv a prime minister becasue Gordon Brown was just elected. That was even on our news channels.

| we mainly hear about politics. the queen gets a mention now and then and so do the princes and princesses. but mainly the ministers of parliament. (mps). gordon brown wasnt elected tho. not by the public. only by his own party to lead them. the british public didnt have a say in that.

| I suppose there is more about the PM, but to be honest when the news readers start gabbing about politics I turn it off anyway - it's way too boring and pointless! No government is ever going to improve the way things are and so I don't want to hear about all their empty promises and lies when I could be doing something really interesting like polishing my shoes for work or feeding the dog!

| over the course of an average month, you would hear far more about the PM, than the queen. Politics is an everyday news item, and the PM would be in the news (i guess) about 6 times per weekthe queen is largely an irrelevance, and the news would only cover royal stories when there is something extraordinary going on in the Queen/ royal family's life.

| The only things we hear about the royal family really are about the prince's ex-girlfriend going for a night outor the royals going on all-expenses (tax expenses, i add) paid trips around the globe

| I'm an American who often reads Edinburgh's newspaper, The Scotsman, and from what I can tell, the British press allows both the Prime Minister and the Queen a large measure of privacy, the tabloids focusing instead upon the exploits of other Royals. For the most part, at best, the Royal Family are seen as an irrelevant curiosity, however. As a Scottish cousin has explained, since the British people elect the political party, not the Prime Minister, they don't normally pay as much attention to their personal lives. Case in point, although Prime Minister Gordon Brown is a native of Scotland, very little appears in the Scottish press about his private life except that it has been noted that one of his sons suffers from cystic fibrosis, and Brown himself is the son of a Church of Scotland minister. When I turned to Wikipedia, I discovered that Brown has suffered a detached retina that brought about the complete loss of vision in his left eye and that similarly his right eye has had to undergo numerous surgeries--all of which might contribute to his personality.Of course, what the British public knows about the personal life of the Prime Minister in part depends upon how much he and his family furnish the Press. For example, Sarah Macaulay Brown doesn't grant interviews and purposefully stays out of the limelight unlike her predecessor, Cherie Booth Blair. Then again, I've heard little about either First Lady Laura Bush or the Bush twins during the past year, and I live within 30 miles of the Bush Ranch in Crawford, Texas. [Note to self--glance at the front page of the tabloids the next time I go through a grocery store checkout!] www.en.wikipedia.org
