Hi, I have had a swolen gland in my left side jaw on and off for months. I started getting really bad toothache, and the dentist through and xray found that there was an infection and the root of a tooth was disintegrating, despite no obvious cause or cavity. I used lots of antibiotics to get rid of it and then the dentist did root canal. A week later the infection had gone and "bone was replacing" the infection site. Now, 3 weeks later, the gland is swolen again, and I fear the cause of the infection is not resolved. I have suffered from stragne sensations in my ears on that side for years but doctors have found nothing wrong. Any ideas would be appreciated. Many thanks

Bring up to your doctor the possibility of an infected saliva gland. The neck has two saliva glands, one major one that runs up the side of the neck and towards the ear and one that's at the curve of the jaw. The only reason I say this is because right now, I'm suffering from either that, or a Branchial Cleft Cyst. Here's a few links that I found helpful with learning about saliva glands. http://www.merck.com/mmhe/sec08/ch11...s/1059.htmlYou may need to go visit an Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor. Have you been to see your regular doctor? Have they done a blood count and checked your white blood count to see if it's bacterial or viral? The best advice I think I could give you is go see your regular MD and ask for a referral to an Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor. It's scary, but it's best to get this handled and taken care of before something worse happens. Infections in the glands are nothing to mess around about, I won't go into it because I don't want to scare you. Good luck and I'm praying everything turns out just fine for you.
