| My optometrist told me to rinse the contact lens case in warm/hot water. However, I'm concerned of bacteria or other organisms that could potentially be in the water and could therefore affect my eyes. Is it safe to rinse the case in water? What kinds of bacteria or other organisms could be in water (that may survive high temperatures). Thanks all!

| Most optometrists tell you not to wash your lenses in water, but I've been doing it for years and it's absolutely fine.

| If you're worried about bacteria, just rinse them with your eye-drops instead. Water shouldn't be that much of a problem though.

| It's fine to wash your lens case in tap water, then leave it to air dry. This is what i recommend to my patients, as do all my colleagues. It's NOT ok to wash your actual contact lenses in water however, as the bugs in the water can live in the lens material, and the constant contact with your eye coupled with any dryness of your cornea (very common) can result in a nasty infection.
