Hi. My periods have always been normal except for this month. I am thinking that when I see my GYN. that she will more then likely start me on some birth control to help regulate my periods and help start this period that I have missed. My insuramce will not cover an IUD. I am a smoker, I am over weight and I have high blood preasure. Will having these things up my risks for a heart attack, stoke, anyerism, pluminary imbolism if I start on birth control? I have heard on TV commercials that all of these things are a risk. So I was thinking if I have these things it would up my risks. I really need to start on birth control. But I am abit afraid. I would hate to start on it and end up dead! I have 2 kids to raise! What would you suggest? Is there any birth control for over weight, high blood preasure, smoking people like myself?My insurance also doesn't cover diaphrams and I am unable at this time to buy one myself.

Yes all of those things are really really bad for you,the top 3 reasons for getting cancer are all smoking , srry 2 b bluntand yes heart attacks and strokes etc also happen just from smoking etc, birth control may make it worse i suggest you talk to your doctor.

It would be best if you were able to quit smoking to reduce risks from the birth control pill (BCP). deep venous thrombosis/pulmonary embolism is a risk of the birth control pill. Smoking and increased body weight are also risk factors.Your doctor will be able to come up with a birth control plan that suits your needs.

well, i am a smoker, and slightly overweight ,and have sucessfully used birth control for years. If u r under 35 its less, and the less you smoke the better. But if u r a heavy smoker, u may need to cut down. This is really a better discussion for your doctor. But if this month is the only one that has ever been abnormal, your gyno may not put u on birth control, because most women miss one or get one late on occasion.
