Mouth guard for teeth clenching?

i have been made a mouth guard/splint as my dentist thinks i clench my teeth during the night ( i have been having pain for 2 years in my teeth) but i have used the mouth guard for 2 nights and my jaws are in AGONY, they ache all during the day. is this just my jaws getting used to the splint or what?

Yes !! The same thing when a person has just stated wearing braces. At first, it's uncomfortable, but it should ease as time goes on. Your habit of clenching your teeth @ night is still happening while you're wearing the guard. If, it persists over a long period of time, contact your dentist. You might want to take some Tylenol before you go to bed.
