I'm volunteering at a hospital b/c I want to be a doctor...would this be

considered rude? Hello, I am 17 and hope to someday be a neurologist. I start my volunteer work at the local childrens hospital in 3 weeks. When I went for my training, they said I would mainly be assisting nurses, organizing charts, transporting patients, etc.

So, my question is, if I'm around a neurologist, or any doctor for that matter, would it be rude if I asked them just anything along the lines of med school, residency, or just a simple curious medical question?

I don't think it is rude at all. In fact askig questions just shows that you are serious about the medical profession. You will already have a head start when you start med school. You will hopefully have observed and learned how to interact with patients, families and other staff.

Nope! Ask away. How else are you going to get first hand answers? Most people are flattered if you seek knowledge from them. They'll probably be impressed that you're actively seeking knowledge and may go out of their way to help you. Best wishes!!

Why would it be rude? Just don't ask any personal questions relating to their health, their money, their family or their relationships.

I don't think it would be rude at all, as long as the doctor wasn't with a patient when you asked. I think most professional people are happy to provide wisdom to eager students. Just don't be taken aback if they ask you to talk about it at a later time.
