Yes. When you bike ride you are building up your heart rate while still building muscle. Brisk walking is okay too, but you do not build up much muscle or heart rate!

Of course, it depends on many factors, such as speed and how willing you are to exert yourself in each activity. However, biking creates less impact strain on your joints than walking does (although walking is a lot better than running in this respect). An additional factor to consider is that the higher speeds attained by biking can be more exhilirating, and help cool your body down on a hot day. Finally, I would consider the environment you live in - if there is heavy traffic and not well defined spaces for bike riders, it may not be a safe idea to ride your bike. But if there are not good sidewalks, walking may be less attractive.
