| For an anxiety disorder you will most likely be prescribed paxil, especially if you are young, which I'm guessing you are. Have they tried counseling yet? If it's possible to use alternative treatments to medication you should explore those because anti-anxiety and anti-depression medications can have some nasty side effects. Make sure you get all of the information from your doctor before you start a medication regime because you can't just stop taking it all of the sudden if you don't like the side effects, that can make you sick.

| You will most likely be prescribed with anti-depressants initially and if you do not improve you could be put on lithium. Your DOPAMINE level must be low - that is a brain chemical. Normally some good regular physical exercise followed by deep breathing should make you feel better. You should avoid smoking and alcohol completely. AVOID DRUGS (MEDICATION) IF POSSIBLE - YOU COULD BECOME 'DRUG DEPENDANT' and this means your 'anxiety will only get worse and last forever!

| Well, i think your doc is crazy if he/she hasn't first recommended you for anxiety therapies. Counselling is a bit rubbish, but things like Reverse or Mickel Therapy can change your perspective amazingly. I know, i've done it :-)

| It all depends on your type of anxiety. If you have panic attacks, mood swings, depression...and others, the meds may be different to treat your main issue. I have had anxiety and panic attacks for over 10+ years. The only med that works for me is Zoloft. Now I know many others that can't take it. It a combination of finding out the true cause for your symptoms. It could be as simple as learning the triggers, and you may not even need meds. If you do, take your time with the meds. Most don't take effect for weeks. Don't give up, and sometimes it may take trying what med will work best for you. You may feel bad as you introduce the meds into your system...but once they reach a theraputic level..you will feel so much better! Hopefully you won't even require meds..but if you do.....don't ever feel bad about it. Anxiety and depression are medical conditions just like any other. Good luck to you!

| Please, if you feel like talking to people will get you over the hump, then do it. Paxil is a BAD, BAD med to get hooked on. They all are. I am a victim of Paxil. I was on it for a year. I got off it, because i was feeling worse than before. I was going through a hard time in my life and thought i couldn't deal with anything. All I had to do was soul search. So, I decided i should try and deal with it like a normal, healthy, human being. Try very hard not to take meds. Just try, don't give up on life and settle for meds. They say the meds are supposed to be a temporary fix. But you get hooked on them, and very ill if you try to get off. I tried stopping on my own cold turkey. Big mistake! I was so ill i couldn't get off the couch. Paxil makes you grind your teeth too. In a year you will have so much jaw pain. Mine is all gone. Like i said, my bout with anxiety is over. I'm a better person for it. I got back out there and took life by the horns. I know you can do it too. Anybody can.

| The medication could be from a family of drugs which deal with your particular kind of disorder. After asking about side effects etc... you may well want to know how long you will be on the drugs. I would also suggest that you ask your doctor for Cognitive Therapy which has a high success rate in dealing with the thought processes which accompany anxiety disorders. Taking the tablets is only some of the story and maybe you need some help with how you can make small changes to lessen your disorder and give you something to focus on.
