having been off work for a while, I am getting treatment and on medication for possible bipolar, however to keep recieving income support I need to go for a medical through the jobcentre, in a few weeks time. anybody know what to expect? I am worried that they will say I am capable of going back to work, even though I am struggling to get through the day most of the time! uk answers only please.

they have got you if you do not go for the medical they will not pay you.I work in a hospital were we heal with this all the time the basic thing is a doctor will ask you a lot of questions so that he can make a report that will be sent to the job centre.tell the doctor that you are feeling that you can not cope and he will be able to helpgood luck let me know how you get on and if i can be of anymore help let me know. all the best tony

I have PTSD and I have been to one of these medicals. I know exactly how you are feeling. I was very stressed out and very anxious. You are allowed to have someone present with you while you are talking to the doctor if you want to. I took my brother in with me. I found the person who interviewed me to be very understanding and calming. She asked me a lot of questions on her form. They needed an outline to the cause of the PTSD (not loads of details), they needed to know how it affected my life day to day, if I was able to go out and do things normally or if I was having difficulties in coping with this. They ask if you are taking medications and if you are receiving any counselling or therapy.It does feel overwhelming and very frightening to do, but I managed to get through it with the help of my brother. Have you got anyone who could go with you to offer you moral support even if they stay in the waiting room at least you will not feel alone. Mental illnesses do make you feel isolated and very anxious.Good luck and I am sure everything will be okay.:-)))
