What is the worst case scenario for Kosovo territory?

Albanians have said they will declare independence in December - which should not be recognized by international law or UN rules. However, Serbia could move military to area to secure Serbs living there. Could it involve US/UN fighting Serbs? Could it involve the Russian military? How strong is the Serbian military? How strong is US presence?

We can't just walk into Serbia and tell them they have to give up more than half their country just because a lot of Albanians have moved in.

Kosovo is Serbian territory and they have the right to defend themselves.
