I have been asked to write an article on this topic! especially in India! can u help me?

To promote tourism, you need to promote what's special about your country.

www.yahoo7.com.au/myaustralia is a great website about Australia for Australians.

Are you trying to attract Tourism within India by Indians, or by people from other parts of the world? As already you then have two very different segments, and two different approaches you'd need to take.

You need offices in key markets, people that understand those markets, but also understand India, so they can relate to that market and communiate the benefits of India in a way they are most likely to respond.

Have a look at what the tourism offices do in other countries, and get some ideas from there. Good luck!

Generally, TV spots are the best ad to your countries beauties, like the one that was showing during spring this year in CNN and major international channels. It goes out to much more potential travelers than anything else.
One tried recipe is, the local tour operators and the Tourist Board of your country to invite and host major tour operators with an alternative plan of touristic aim. Like mountain climbing, sea resorts, and in general something thematic to attract certain clientele.
Then, the infrastructure of accommodating the tourists should change to their ways and mostly in the fact that in India are hustled and solicited by the poor.
You have the potential to increase many-fold your incoming tourism as long as your are willing to take drastic measures.
