Ne ate kohe ishte edhe 50 vjetori i FIFA-s.
32 shtete moren pjese ne eliminatoret dhe 16 skuadra u kualifikuan per ne finalet e boterorit.
Argjentina vazhdonte bojkotimin e kampionatit ne shenje proteste kunder 'Fifa'.
