| My friend and I are arguing what the difference between a pastry and a cookie is.The main argument is that he refuses to believe that Fig Newtons are cookies, he thinks they are pastries.i said that the kind of dough in fig newtons is more similar to that of a cookie, particularly soft cookies, as opposed to any kind of pastry (i.e. donut, cake, pie)Generally, fig newtons are considered cookies, it is also on their package, labeling them "Chewy, Fruity Cookies."If someone wants to clarify what the difference between a pastry and a cookie is, or which one of the fig newtons are

| It's like asking what the difference between pasta and macaroni. A cookie is a type of pastry. Which would qualify that fig newtons are pastries.
