We are having an international buffet and we have to bring a dish to pass that is representative of our nationality.

I am English, French & German so I have to bring one of those. I learned that English people eat horses so I opted out of that. We have 2 ladies in our office from Germany so that is out. So....I will choose a French dish (no wisecracks about French people!)

I'm thinking something that is easy, really good and somewhat inexpensive if at all possible.

How about a french salad.

Tomates et Concombre au Basilik

Tomato, Cucumber and Basil Salad
Pronounced: toh maht / kohn kuhm bruh / oh / bah zeek leek
INGREDIENTS:
3 large, ripe tomatoes, cored and cut into 8 wedges; then cut each wedge into thirds
1 cucumber, seeded, peeled and cut into 1/2-inch chunks
1/4 cup fresh basil leaves
3 Tablespoons red wine vinegar
4 Tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
sea salt and freshly ground pepper
PREPARATION:
1. Put the vinegar, salt and pepper into a bowl and whisk until the salt is dissolved.

2. Chiffonade the basil. (To chiffonade: lay the basil leaves on top of one another and roll them tightly together.

3. Add the basil and olive oil to the vinegar and whisk together.
To serve:
Put the tomato and cucumber chunks into a bowl. Pour the dressing over and toss to coat. Serve.

Why don't you just call the bakery and get some good french bread or specialty breads french made. I think that will impress everyone and you could like about where it came from.
