Substituting Sugar & Sugar Substitues? I've seen a lot of recipes call for sugar substitutes (splenda, equal) instead of sugar, but I'd like to stay away from these and use some more natural like fruits/natural fruit juice, honey or even a mix of this and very little sugar.
I'm not really sure how to figure out substitute equivalents for this (surely it must be possible.... right? please tell me yes!). I'm pretty good at adding/removing from recipes, but this is new for me... The best I've found is "To use honey in place of sugar, use 7/8 C for every cup of sugar, and reduce the liquid in the recipe by 3 tsp."
My plan was to make a frosted strawberry cake for a friend's birthday. I'm wondering if it's possible to change any basic/plain/yellow cake recipe to not include the sugar and exchange it for honey and/or fruits (if absolutely necessary I can go up to about ½-¾ C of sugar, but I would love to keep it to a minimum). I've got a frosting recipe reading to go, I'm just missing the whole cake part!
Thanks~
