| It depends on what your doing with it. Olive oil has a much lower heat level then Veg. Oil. So for frying no you can't for salads yes you certainly can.If it's going into something like a sauce with other liquids yes you can.Olive oil is much better for you but it burns at a lower heat then Veg. oil so thats your limitation.

| yes you can....but it is not a good substitute for deep frying or anything that requires real high heat because it has a low smoke temp (burns easily) but in recipes, and to saute' it's fine...

| olive oil has a much stronger flavour than regular veg oil so it makes a difference on what you are using it for. The health benefits of olive oil are also reduced once it has been cooked so unless you are using it raw in a dressing you'd do better getting the much cheaper veg oil and using that.

| If you were using extra virgin olive oil, I would say no. But plain old olive oil is pretty close to vegetable oil. The other folks that answered are correct: olive oil does have a lower smoke point than vegetable oil does. Although, that really does not make much difference if you are making pancakes since you are not sautéing or pan frying anything. Personally, I use olive oil for almost all cooking (with the exception of baking... since 1/3 cup here and there can make things pretty costly) mostly because I like the clarity of it and how it does not really impart much of its own flavor to things (like peanut oil has... in my experience anyway). Ultimately, its up to the cook.

| if you use olive oil for cooking, ad some lemon juice, it raises the tem. limit, but do not use for deep fry. also, do not scimper on the price buy the best yo can afford, but always virgin or extra virgin becurse of the lighter flavor, but in general olive oil is the best for you if you must use oil at all, try pure peanut oil for frying . olive oil makes an exellent sunscreen too, on you skin that is
