| type of music, etc is expected? What have others done for the parent's 50, 60, or 70th birthdays? The party is during the day (12-4pm). She wants to have dancing but thinks that no one will want to dance in the afternoon. The venue is an outdoor tented area adjacent to a Yacht Club/boathouse on a pier for 80-100 people.Personally, with the right entertainment/music I think people will dance. Plus, we are throwing her a really nice party, it is not completely ideal for her because it is not in the evening.Anyway, any suggestions are welcome if they worked or didn't work for your parent's birthday. Thanks!

| Everyone always likes the music they liked in high school. So have music from the early '60s. But don't limit it to that era. If you want people to dance, then you need music from all eras that the guests are from or in. Older guests will like music from the '50s. Younger from their time. And there are classics from all decades that everyone will dance to. Have any of your friends get married recently? If so, talk to them, they went thru the same problem

| I would hire a DJ that was willing to play primarily music your Mother enjoys, not just the popular stuff. I assume many of your guests would be her contemporaries--her friends, co-workers, family members etc. For it to be truly enjoyable for her, music that makes her foot tap is required, especially if she wants to dance! At my father's 70th bday party, we set up a CD player/changer with about 10 CDs with music from primarily the 70s, with some earlier stuff thrown in. (We did 70s music because that is the decade he did most of his "cattin' around"/midlife crises dancing, wining and dining) It worked really well. We also made sure that the music was not too loud so he could chat with all his friends and HEAR them! (a bit hard of hearing). People did dance and had a lovely time--he thought it was great. I was a little hesitant to make it surprise party, but it worked out ok--no one got hurt! Also, at his age, not many contemporaries around, so we did invite many friends from over the years--old and young. We also did picture boards--poster size collages of his life in photographs with his friends and family. It turned out really nice. Good luck and get lots of pics! Make her a photo album from all the pics so she remembers what a great party it was on her 60th!
