Depending on how much you need to make use the following guideline 1 part water to 2 parts sugar. I use 2 cups of water and 4 cups of sugar when I've made it in the past. Add whatever color food coloring you want to the water and then bring to a boil. Completely dissolve the sugar and continue to stir until the mixture reaches a rolling boil (the boil cannot be stopped by stirring). Pour mixture into a jar and suspend a cotton string from a pencil (helps to weight the end with a paper clip or other sterile sinker or such). Very important: you need seed crystals - to form either wet string and rub with sugar or dip sting in your mixture and let dry before suspending string into mixture. It will take a few days to form the rock sugar.
