Sweden has one of the lowesst marriage rates in the world. Only about 60% will ever marry, compared to over 85% of the US.From 1970- 2004 the average of marriage plunged by nearly 50%. This is due to combination of factors. First marriages are being put off until later: the median age of new spouses rose from 20 for females and 23 for males in 1960 to about 26 & 27, respectively, in 2004. Other factors include the growth of cohabitation and a small decrease in the tendence of divoced to remarry.
