| All that happens when you're drunk is that you become disinhibited. People who lie when sober, will tell hugely more creative lies when drunk, because their bullshit detector is turned off. They'll lie to provoke a reaction, or to make themselves look more important, or because they're annoyed, or to make a point, or to make the story a better one...If someone tells you something hugely important when they're drunk, take it with a huge *bottle* of salt - not just a pinch.Best chance of getting the truth from someone is to build up a relationship of trust over about, oh, forty years, wait until they're ten minutes from death, and *then* ask.But even then...Helen

| absolutely! the only problem with drunken ramblings is that all tact and diplomacy go out the window. but the nucleus of the conversation is normally pretty near the mark, peoples inhibitions relax and their true feelings show through. its not an exact science but if you ever want to know the real truth you get the subject pissed.

| maybe..difficult one.My partner used to be an alcoholic and said some terrible things that were not true,it is true that alcolhol changes our perception of things and also relaxes our inibitions...depends on weather the perosn in question..are they normally quiet and withdrawn.Anyway i would not listen to anyone who was drunk..if you have been hurt by words..then i suggest you would withdraw and wait till they have sobered up..then ask them about what they had said.take care, and do not listen to drunk people.

| drunks often say things that they wouldn't have the courage to say sober but it doesn't mean its the truth. a drunks idea of the world is distorted because of the alcohols effect on the brain so its not true to say that they always speak the truth. i have often said to my drunk friends "OMG your sooo drunk" they always say no I'm not! that's not the truth lol it doesn't work is a distorted reality.

| Absolutely, in my experience. But they tend to brag too, so I suppose it depends what they are talking about.
