Is there a typo on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine when Jimi Hendrix died?

On the cover of the issue: Jimi Hendrix-RS 68 (October 15, 1970), it says "1945 - 1970", but he was born in 1942. What happened? Did they get it wrong on the cover of the Rolling Stone?
