| ...on, the fan on, etc...? Spouse always leaves everything in the car turned on, so when I go to start the car, the lights are on, the radio is on, the fan is on. It sure seems like the extra burden on the start would be bad for the car. Does it matter???

| It matters cause the starter needs all the juice it can get from the battery. The battery is supplying the juice when the car ain't running. Especially needed in the colder months. Yeah, everything should be off until the car is running. Having those things on drains the battery down and burns out the starter as it gets less juice than it should(cause part of that juice must go to the plugs and the fuel pump at the same time when cranking it. Don't believe what is shown on TV movies. Those cars were just shut off and are warm, so easy to start.

| When you turn the key to start the engine your accessories are all turned off temporarily. It doesn't matter what is turned on. The time from when you turn the key from off to the time the key is turned to start is to short to drain the battery. Since all the devices are shut off as the engine is being started they can't be harmed by a reduced voltage, so that should cover everything...

| All the accessories are on a separate pole in the ignition switch. When you turn the key to start, you are only activating the starting circuit. When you release the key after starting, then your auxiliary circuits are activated. Yes it does matter in the fact that you and spouse vowed to love, honor and obey. The problem is a loose nut behind the wheel.

| Yes and no. Those things all pull from the battery. The car will usually start in nice weather just fine. But if there is a problem, they will cause the car to have problems starting. Many people leave these things on, and on newer cars it won't kill them, but it won't help them either. If it is not a shared car (i.e. if it is her car, and you have your own) then let her know that she should turn it off, and you won't help her if her battery dies, and leave it at that. It isn't worth the extra frustration over this and she will just resent you.

| YES ;all of these use power and when you hit start battery voltage will drop lower than normal ,result SLOWER cranking speed , also a lot of electronic equip can be damaged through under voltage Eg. raruio eletronic ignition , on board control computer,to name some.
