Please remember that the "Democratic" congress has a bunch of Republicans. There is not a lot of difference in the headcounts of the two parties.That being said - the Democrats are pursuing a tactic of payback, organizing hearings and pressing for revelation of Republican misdeeds. They should be working on the things that affect Americans directly. They blustered about a withdrawal plan for the Iraq conflict and wasted days and days on the subject when it was quite obvious that Bush was going to veto the bill anyway. Again, the Republicans have enough weight to prevent a veto override and the Democrat leadership knew this from the beginning. Why not call for a meeting with the President, work things out as best that is practical and move on? They are doing what the Republicans did - and the public doesn't like it. 28%? Heck, Saddam could probably have garnered 28% if he worked at it a bit.By the way - I am a sincere, dyed-in-the-wool independent voter.

What polls show that? Support your claim.Congress still has too many Republicans and they are obstructionists. Polls show that most American registered voters would rather see the Democrats, liberal or not, in charge of Congress after 2008.
